On Children’s Day while children were being celebrated worldwide, a Lagos-based couple allegedly chose to beat their little son to death for playing with friends. Area residents told reporters on Wednesday that the couple allegedly killed their son because he was complaining of hunger after he finished playing with his friends. Mr Paul Obiefule and his wife, Onyedikachi Mbanozo allegedly killed the little boy at their home at 22 Omitola street in Agege area of Lagos state Nigeria. The 12-year-old boy was beaten to death around 2:30pm on Children’s Day. The couple’s neigbhour, Mukaila Maliki said the boy had in the past been beaten to a coma and had to be hospitalised for a month. “Paul Obiefule was arrested by policemen from Railway Police Station, Agege, and interrogated in connectionwith the beating of little Onydikachi, for a week before he was released during that first incident,” said Maliki. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man, Mr. Paul Obiefule, for allegedly beating his 12-year-old relative to death. Punch Metro learnt that Onyedika, as the boy was fondly called, was the son of Obiefule’s wife’s brother. It was further gathered that the boy was beaten to death on Monday evening around 8.30pm, while the neighbours reported the matter at the Pen Cinema Police Division on Tuesday. Nigeria’s president was sent a new video of the schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in which they beg him to spare their lives through a prisoner swap, sources close to the militia have told The Telegraph. The video was said to have been handed to Goodluck Jonathan’s office by an intermediary who started a dialogue with the group two weeks ago. The intermediary, a Nigerian journalist, obtained the video as a way of proving to Mr Jonathan’s office that he had authentic lines of communication to Boko Haram’s leaders. The Nigerian Army has announced the captured of three people they believe are suppliers of arms for the dreaded Islamist militant group, Boko Haram. According to reports, the suspects include a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, and a corporal, Abu Haruna, Solomon, arrested for illegal trafficking of arms and ammunition.
